App in the Air's own store listings both return a not-found response today. Its Google Play page and its App Store page were both checked on 2026-09-09 and both came back 404. Its own site, appintheair.mobi, redirects to a page for an airline retail platform that never mentions the app by name. That is the fact this page can stand behind: the product is gone from both stores. What it does not do is print a shutdown date, because the sources that offer one disagree with each other, and none of them is App in the Air's own announcement.
If you searched for what happened to app in the air because you used it and it stopped working, or because a link to it went dead, the short answer is that nothing you can install remains, and two other apps have already written their own pages about what to use next.
TrackMyWings™ is our own product. Every fact below about App in the Air, byAir or FlightElite was checked against the vendor's own page, on the date given, and is listed again in the Sources section.
What our own check found
Four checks, all run on 2026-09-09:
- App in the Air's Google Play listing returns a not-found response.
- Its App Store page also returns a not-found response.
- appintheair.mobi redirects to a different site, lifeintheair.com, described on its own page as an onboard retail platform for airlines. A search of that page for the string "App in the Air" turns up nothing.
- appintheair.com itself could not be reached at all; the connection failed before any page loaded, so no first-party announcement page exists to read.
Put together, that is enough to say the product is discontinued. It is not enough to say when. flighty.com states one date and byAir's own Russian-language page states a different month, and a discussion-forum thread title gives a third date again. All three are secondhand, none is App in the Air's own statement, and none of the three agrees with the other two closely enough to trust. This page leaves the date out rather than pick a side.
What replaces it, per each vendor's own page
Two competitors have already written their own page about this exact question, which is itself a fact worth naming plainly: byAir's own comparison page for "App in the Air" holds position 2 on the search query "app in the air alternative 2026," checked 2026-09-09. FlightElite has published its own post titled, in its words, "Current Alternative After Shutdown," checked the same date.
byAir's Play listing, checked 2026-09-09, describes a live flight tracker with terminal, gate, route, distance and remaining-time fields, a monitoring window that starts six hours before departure, inbound-plane status, and Friends and Family Sharing through an invite link. It also states, in its own words, that it can import flight history "from FlightRadar24, App in the Air, Flighty and TripIt," which is a direct answer to the question a former App in the Air user is likely to ask first. byAir does not publish a price anywhere this page could verify, so none is printed here.
FlightElite's own comparison page, checked 2026-09-09, states that its iOS build ships publicly while Android remains in private beta. That page also carries a dated sourcing footnote on its pricing, naming the months its own numbers were checked, which is worth naming as a genuine strength: it tells a reader exactly how fresh its figures are, the same discipline this page tries to hold itself to.
Neither mention here is a recommendation. Both are sourced, dated facts about pages that already exist, offered because a reader asking this question deserves to know they are not the only ones who have.
If you have flight history in App in the Air
If years of flights are logged somewhere inside an app that no longer opens, the honest answer is that we cannot get that history for you. Importing history from another app is not on TrackMyWings' planned-at-launch list. byAir's own listing states it can import history from App in the Air among others, which is the closer answer if that record matters to you, and it is byAir's claim to stand behind, not ours.
Where TrackMyWings fits
TrackMyWings is a live flight-tracking platform in development. A private beta shipped on 2026-08-24, running on Android only, on the Play internal testing track, with a small group of named testers rather than a public download. Public launch is gated on trade-mark clearance and on the app being good enough to earn the download, with no fixed date set.
Planned at launch: a shared family view, flight history of your own, gate and status alerts, and a live map. All of that is future tense for a reason, because none of it is something you can open today unless you are one of the named testers, and even then the flights on the screen are seeded rather than real.
Questions people ask
Is App in the Air still available? No. Its Google Play and App Store pages both returned a not-found response when checked on 2026-09-09, and its own site now redirects somewhere unrelated.
When did App in the Air shut down? This page does not print a date. The sources that offer one, checked 2026-09-09, disagree with each other and none is App in the Air's own statement.
What replaces App in the Air? Two competitors already publish their own pages naming themselves as an answer, byAir and FlightElite, both checked 2026-09-09. This page states their own claims about themselves without recommending either one.
Does TrackMyWings import App in the Air history? No. Importing history from another app is not on our planned-at-launch list. byAir's own listing advertises that feature for this exact app.
Can I use TrackMyWings today instead? Not publicly. The beta shipped on 2026-08-24 to named testers on the Play internal testing track, and public launch has no fixed date.
