Flight Tracking

CJB to BOM: Coimbatore to Mumbai Flights, Timings

TrackMyWings Team8 min read

CJB to BOM is the domestic sector between Coimbatore International (CJB) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM) in Mumbai, 1,002 km apart by great-circle distance. Which airlines run a CJB to BOM flight, and at what time, changes by season, so the operating carrier's own schedule is the only place a departure time is current on the day you need it. What holds still is the shape of the sector, what a status board is telling you when the numbers move, and how much of the gap between "Landed" and the passenger walking out belongs to taxiing, deplaning and the baggage belt. That last part is most of this guide, because it is the part the person standing at arrivals gets wrong.

How far is a CJB to BOM flight, and how long does it take?

The two airports sit 1,002 km apart in a straight line. That is great-circle distance between their published coordinates, and it reproduces: recomputing it from the latitude and longitude of both airports gives 1,001.8 km, about 0.2 km off the figure the Coimbatore to Mumbai route page carries.

Great-circle distance is not the distance an aircraft covers. Real tracks follow airways, take vectors from air traffic control and bend around weather, so miles flown run longer than the straight line. Block time, the gate-to-gate number an airline publishes, stretches further still: it includes pushback, taxi at both ends, and any holding before landing.

So this guide does not print a flight time for the pair. The figure worth trusting is the block time the operating airline publishes against the specific flight you are booked on, which appears on the ticket and on that carrier's own schedule page.

Two things about the endpoints that do not move. Coimbatore International (CJB) sits at 404 m elevation. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM) sits at 12 m, inside the city it serves.

Which airlines fly Coimbatore to Mumbai, and where to check

Any page that prints a named list of carriers for a route is only as current as the dataset behind it. Older India route datasets still carry airlines that stopped flying years ago, and a list like that reads as authoritative long after it stops being true. So this guide names no carrier as operating the sector today.

Two places answer the question for the day you are asking:

  1. The operating carrier's own schedule or flight search. It is the operator of record for its own flights, and it is where a timing change appears first.
  2. The departures and arrivals boards the two airports publish themselves, which show what is running today rather than what was filed for the season.

Our own directory pages sit a step behind both of those, and it is worth saying so plainly. The route page above is built from a route dataset: it is the place to read the sector and how far apart the two airports are, and not the place to read a Tuesday in September.

What the status board is actually telling you

A flight status board carries three different times, and the difference between them is the entire message.

Scheduled is the published time. It is what was filed and what is printed on the ticket, and it does not move once the day starts.

Estimated is the operator's current expectation for something that has not happened yet. It moves, sometimes more than once, and each move carries information. An estimate that slides in small steps usually means the aircraft is still inbound from its previous sector and nobody wants to commit yet. An estimate that jumps in one large step usually means a decision was taken.

Actual is a timestamp on something that already happened. Once an actual time is on the board, that part of the journey is closed and no longer worth watching.

A gate change on its own is not a delay. Gates are allocated from a shared pool and reshuffled through the day as aircraft arrive and leave. At the departure airport a gate change usually means a walk. At the arrival airport it can change which exit the passenger eventually comes through, which matters more to you than to them.

"Landed" is the narrowest word on the board. It means the wheels are down on the runway. It does not mean the aircraft is on a stand, the doors are open, or anyone has stood up.

When to leave for a pickup at Mumbai (BOM)

Touchdown starts a chain, and every link in it takes time.

The aircraft exits the runway and taxis, which at a busy single-runway airport can be the longest link of all. It waits for a stand, or is bussed in from a remote one. Doors open. Passengers deplane by rows, and a full narrowbody empties slowly from the back. Then there is the walk, and then the belt, which is where hand luggage travellers walk straight past everyone else and checked-bag travellers wait.

Nobody can honestly hand you a number for that chain at BOM on a given day. It depends on the stand, the terminal, the aircraft, whether the passenger checked a bag, and how many other aircraft arrived in the same ten minutes. What can be said with confidence is the direction of the error: the arrival time on the board is the start of the chain, not the end of it, and the person waiting at the kerb almost always leaves too early.

The workable version is to watch the estimated arrival time rather than the scheduled one, on the operating carrier's own status page or the arrivals board the airport publishes itself, and to leave once the aircraft is on the ground. Then confirm the terminal on that same airport board before you pick a parking level, because domestic arrivals do not all come out of the same door.

How flight tracking sees a sector like this one

Most consumer flight tracking runs on ADS-B. The aircraft works out its own position from onboard systems including satellite navigation, then broadcasts its identity and position automatically, with no interrogation from the ground, and receivers below capture that broadcast for surveillance (EUROCONTROL, Automatic dependent surveillance broadcast, captured 2026-09-10). Community networks are built from volunteer-run receivers, so what a network hears follows where people live: dense over populated land, thin to absent over open ocean, because there is nothing underneath to listen.

Coimbatore to Mumbai runs overland, north-north-west across peninsular India rather than out over the Arabian Sea, and overland is the case ground receivers handle best. It is not a guarantee. Receiver density varies from one stretch of a country to the next, and a flight can go unheard for part of a leg, or for a whole day, when nothing nearby is listening. That is a property of the technology and the map rather than a performance figure for any app, and a percentage attached to it would be a number nobody measured.

Where TrackMyWings™ stands today: a private beta shipped on 2026-08-24, Android only, on the Play internal testing track. Public launch has no fixed date. The features planned for launch include a live map, gate and status alerts, and a shared view for family, and they are planned rather than shipped. The line the product is built against is "Every flight you take. Every person waiting." On a route like this one, the second half is the half doing the work.

FAQ

How far is Coimbatore to Mumbai? 1,002 km by great-circle distance between CJB and BOM, which recomputes from the two airports' coordinates to 1,001.8 km. The distance actually flown is longer, because tracks follow airways and air traffic control vectors.

How long does a CJB to BOM flight take? This guide does not print a figure. Use the block time the operating airline publishes for the flight number you are booked on. It covers gate to gate, not wheels up to wheels down.

Does "Landed" mean the passenger has come out? No. "Landed" means the wheels are on the runway. Taxi, stand allocation, deplaning, the walk and the baggage belt all come after it, and together they usually run longer than people expect.

Where do I check today's CJB to BOM timings? The operating carrier's own schedule page first, then the boards the two airports publish themselves. The Coimbatore to Mumbai route page covers the sector and its distance rather than the day's departures.

Distance, airport names and elevations come from the route and airport dataset behind our own directory pages, checked 2026-09-10; the working is in this draft's data notes.

Three things are deliberately not stated here, because no first-party capture backs them yet: which airlines operate the sector today, their current timings, and which terminal domestic arrivals use at Mumbai. The descriptions of Scheduled, Estimated and Actual are operational usage rather than a quoted glossary.
