Flight Tracking

CDG to PEK: Paris to Beijing Flight Status

TrackMyWings Team6 min read

CDG PEK is the sector between Charles de Gaulle (CDG) in Paris and Beijing Capital International (PEK), roughly 8,190 km apart by great-circle distance. That figure comes from recomputing the two airports' published coordinates directly, and it lands within a few hundred metres of the same figure our own route dataset carries for the pair, worth doing the arithmetic rather than trusting one source blind. Which airline is flying it this season, and at what time, changes with the schedule, so the operating carrier's own page is the only place that number is current on the day you need it. This guide covers what does not change: the distance, the time-zone gap, and how to read a status board on a long overland crossing.

What to check for a CDG to PEK flight status

Start from the flight number on the booking rather than the city pair. With that number, two places are worth trusting. The operating airline's own status page is first, because the airline is the party that knows when the aircraft pushed back and what it currently expects for arrival. The arrivals board Beijing Capital publishes itself is second, and it is the one to trust in the final hour before landing, since it reflects what the arrival airport is actually planning for.

Our own CDG to PEK route page sits a step behind both of those. It is the place to read the sector and the geography around it, not the place to read a Tuesday in October.

CDG to PEK at a glance

DetailCDG to PEK
Departure airportCharles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG), Paris (Roissy-en-France, Val-d'Oise), France
Arrival airportBeijing Capital International Airport (PEK), Beijing, China
Great-circle distanceAbout 8,190 km
Departure elevation119 m
Arrival elevation35 m

That distance is the shortest line between the two airports' coordinates, not the track an aircraft actually flies. Real routings bend around airway structure, winds and airspace, so the miles flown run longer than the great-circle figure, sometimes noticeably on the return leg against prevailing winds.

How this corridor sits for flight tracking

Most consumer flight tracking runs on ADS-B: the aircraft works out its own position from onboard systems including satellite navigation and broadcasts it automatically, with ground receivers below capturing that broadcast for surveillance (EUROCONTROL, Automatic dependent surveillance broadcast, captured 2026-09-23). Community tracking networks are built from volunteer-run receivers, so what the network hears follows where people live rather than where aircraft fly.

A Paris to Beijing routing runs mostly overland, crossing Central and Eastern Europe, Russia or Central Asia and Western China depending on the day's airspace and routing, rather than open ocean. Overland is generally the case ground receivers handle best, but receiver density still varies sharply from one stretch of that route to the next, dense near cities, thin across the more sparsely populated interior. That is a property of the technology and the geography, the same everywhere it applies, not a performance figure for any one app.

The time-zone gap that catches people out

Paris runs on Central European Time, UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 during summer daylight saving. Beijing runs on China Standard Time, UTC+8, year-round, with no daylight saving observed since it was dropped nationally in 1991 (IANA Time Zone Database, captured 2026-09-23). That puts Beijing six hours ahead of Paris in winter and seven ahead in summer.

For a family watching an arrival from the other side of that gap, the trap is simple: a departure that looks like a normal evening on the Paris clock lands the next local morning in Beijing, and the "how long until landing" math is easy to get wrong by an hour if you forget which side of the daylight-saving boundary Paris is on that week. Working from the operating airline's own local arrival time, rather than converting the departure time yourself, avoids that error entirely.

Meeting an arrival at Beijing Capital (PEK)

"Landed" on a status board means the wheels are on the runway, nothing more. Taxi to a stand, deplaning, the walk through the terminal and, for an international arrival, immigration and baggage reclaim all come after it, and together they usually take longer than the gap between "Landed" and "Estimated" made it look.

The workable habit is the same one that applies at any large international arrivals hall: treat the landing time on the board as the point at which to start moving, not the point at which to be standing at the gate, and confirm the terminal before you commit to a route through the airport, since a large hub airport rarely puts every arrival through the same door.

FAQ

How far is Paris to Beijing? About 8,190 km by great-circle distance between CDG and PEK, recomputed directly from the two airports' coordinates. The distance actually flown is longer, because real routings follow airways and bend with the day's winds.

Why might a Paris to Beijing flight disappear from a tracking map partway through? Because community tracking depends on ground receivers, and receiver density on this mostly-overland route varies a lot from one stretch to the next. A quiet patch on the map usually means no nearby receiver has heard the aircraft recently, not that anything is wrong.

What is the time difference between Paris and Beijing? Beijing is six hours ahead of Paris in winter and seven hours ahead during Paris's summer daylight saving, since China does not observe daylight saving.

Where do I check today's CDG to PEK schedule and operator? The operating airline's own schedule page for the current season, then the arrivals board Beijing Capital publishes itself as the flight gets close. The CDG to PEK route page covers the sector and its distance rather than the day's timetable.
