Flight Tracking

Fort Lauderdale to Stockholm, Explained: The Non-Stop Question and Atlantic Tracking

TrackMyWings Team7 min read

FLL to ARN is Fort Lauderdale to Stockholm. FLL is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in South Florida, ARN is Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden, and the two sit 7,963 km apart on the great circle, a little under 4,950 miles. Whether a non-stop is running in the month you are travelling belongs to the airline's own schedule and to the airport's own board, not to a static page, including this one. What follows is the distance, where to check before you travel, and what tracking can show once the aircraft is over open water.

Is there a non-stop from Fort Lauderdale to Stockholm?

Both airports answer this themselves, and they keep the answer current.

Broward County Aviation Department operates Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International and runs a flight search on the airport's own site, filtered by direction, airline and destination city. Swedavia operates Stockholm Arlanda and publishes departures and arrivals boards plus a page listing, in its own wording, "All airlines that serve Stockholm Arlanda Airport". Between them you can settle in a minute whether anything is flying the pair non-stop in your window.

On our side, the FLL to ARN route page is worth reading for one thing on this pair: the great-circle distance, which is geometry and does not move. The airline, the frequency, the on-time percentage and the flight rows on that page are preview figures rather than this month's schedule, and they stay preview figures until our live data lands. For who is actually flying the pair, use the two airport sites above and the operating airline.

How far is FLL to ARN, and why we do not print a flight time

The distance is 7,963 km, or 4,948 miles, on the great circle, from a haversine calculation over the coordinates in our bundled airport dataset: 26.0726, -80.1527 for FLL and 59.6485, 17.9288 for ARN. Great circle means the shortest path across the surface of the earth, which is geometry rather than a flight plan: the track an aircraft flies is set on the day.

We do not print a duration for this pair. Block time on a sector this long moves with the winds aloft, with the routing the crew is given on the day, and with the runways in use at both ends. Eastbound and westbound across the North Atlantic are different numbers in the same week. A figure sitting in a blog post would be wrong on most days, and wrong by enough to matter to whoever is waiting at the other end. Your booking carries the airline's own scheduled block time, and that is the number to plan around.

Why the schedule question needs a live source

Route datasets are snapshots, and ours is no exception. The geometry in it holds up, because airport identities, coordinates and great-circle distances are checkable from first principles. The operational fields do not. The frequency field in our shipped route data reads 7 on all 67,279 rows, so it carries no information about how often anything actually flies. The airline attached to a route row is a historical association rather than a statement about current service: the same airline table still lists carriers that stopped operating years ago. So this post prints no weekly count, no "daily", and no carrier name for FLL to ARN drawn from our own data. Any of the three would read as a fact and function as a guess.

If the non-stop is not running

If nothing is flying the pair non-stop in your month, the itinerary connects, through a hub in Europe or in the United States. For anyone tracking the journey rather than flying it, that changes one thing: you are following two flights, and the number that matters is the first flight's actual arrival, measured against how long the second is still accepting passengers. Watch the inbound leg.

What tracking looks like over the Atlantic

Community flight tracking is built on ADS-B. The aircraft broadcasts its own position, and receivers on the ground pick up the broadcast. Reception is a line-of-sight problem, and the FAA, answering what the range of an ADS-B ground radio station is, puts the constraint plainly in its own ADS-B FAQ: the range "would depend on your aircraft's altitude and any terrain that might block your line of site with the radio station", with "practical limits due to transmitter power and receiver sensitivity".

Receivers sit on the ground, and there is no ground in the middle of the North Atlantic. On a crossing between Florida and Sweden, expect the position to thin out and stop once the aircraft is past the reach of the coastal receivers, then reappear as it comes back within range on the European side. A tracker that goes quiet mid-ocean is out of range rather than broken, and knowing that in advance is worth more than a reassuring dot that was never there.

How to check FLL to ARN status today

Three sources, in the order you should use them.

  1. The operating airline's own status page for the flight number on your booking. It is the first place a change appears.
  2. The airport's own board: Broward County's flight search at the Fort Lauderdale end, Swedavia's departures and arrivals at Arlanda.
  3. Our pages for the pair and its endpoints, for the distance and the two airport profiles: the FLL to ARN route page, Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Stockholm Arlanda (ARN).

How TrackMyWings fits in

TrackMyWings™ is a live flight-tracking platform in development, India-first in go-to-market. A private beta shipped on 2026-08-24: Android only, on the Google Play internal testing track. There is no fixed public launch date.

The route and airport pages linked above open in a browser today, with no install. Planned for launch: a live map, gate and status alerts, and trip management with a shared family view. None of that changes the physics over the Atlantic, which is why this page tells you where the picture goes quiet instead of promising that it will not.

FAQ

How long is the flight from Fort Lauderdale to Stockholm? The great-circle distance is 7,963 km, or 4,948 miles. We do not publish a duration, because block time varies with winds, routing and runways in use, and differs eastbound versus westbound. The scheduled block time on your booking is the airline's own figure and the one to use.

Is FLL to ARN a year-round route? Our route data carries no schedule and no seasons, so it cannot answer that. The airport boards at either end and the operating airline's own schedule can, for the month you are travelling.

What is the difference between FLL and MIA for flying to Sweden? They are two separate airports in South Florida, with separate airlines, boards and flight numbers. Check the code on your booking and use that airport's board. A flight listed at one tells you nothing about the other.

Why does a flight tracker lose an aircraft over the Atlantic? Because ADS-B receivers sit on the ground and reception needs line of sight to one. Mid-ocean there is no receiver in range, so the position stops updating until the aircraft is back within reach of land.
