App in the Air Alternatives: What to Use Now

TrackMyWings Team8 min read

If you're looking for App in the Air, both of its store listings are gone. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aita returns HTTP 404, and so does the App Store page at id527299553. Its own domain, appintheair.mobi, redirects to lifeintheair.com, which loads fine but is an airline onboard-retail platform with zero mentions of "App in the Air" anywhere on it. Checked 2026-09-09. We are not going to guess at a shutdown date here. The secondhand accounts of when this happened contradict each other, so the honest fact is simply that the listings are gone as of the date above.

This page is a "what to use now" guide, not a comparison against a live product, because there isn't one to compare against. It covers what App in the Air used to do, the apps that genuinely replace it today, a real migration path for your flight history, and where TrackMyWings fits, which right now is nowhere you can install it yet.

Disclosure: TrackMyWings™ is our own product. Every fact about byAir, Flighty and FlightElite below is sourced to that app's own store listing or pricing page, with a capture date, and none of it is written to make another app look bad. There are no public TrackMyWings users yet, so nothing here is a switcher story or a testimonial.

What App in the Air used to do

Historically, App in the Air handled trip management, flight history and flight statistics. That's the extent of what's verifiable about it now. Its own pages are gone, so there's nothing current to describe, and we're not going to pad this out with a feature list pulled from memory or from a third-party writeup of an app we can no longer open ourselves.

If you used it to watch one flight in progress or to keep a running log of everywhere you'd flown, the second job is the one with an actual answer below. Two other apps have already published their own "what happened to App in the Air" pages, which tells you the demand for this exact question outlasted the app. byAir's comparison page and FlightElite's own writeup on the shutdown both exist and rank for it, checked 2026-09-09.

Getting your flight history back

The one genuinely useful fact for anyone arriving at this page: byAir's own Play Store listing advertises import of flight history from FlightRadar24, App in the Air, Flighty and TripIt, alongside its own live tracker. That's byAir naming App in the Air specifically as a source it imports from, read directly off its Play listing, checked 2026-09-09. If your reason for being here is "I want my old flight log somewhere," that's the concrete starting point, not a guess.

We can't tell you exactly what that import captures or how complete it is; that's byAir's feature, described in byAir's own words, and we haven't tested it ourselves.

The real replacements, compared

Three apps show up as the working answers to "what replaced App in the Air." Here's what each one actually is, sourced to its own listing.

byAir

Android (com.byairapp.android on Play) and iOS (App Store id 6468928108), plus Apple Watch and Wear OS support. Its Play listing, read 2026-09-09, shows 100K+ downloads and 4.7 stars, most recently updated 5 September 2026: a real, publicly downloaded app rather than a fresh listing with no track record. Per that same listing: a live flight tracker covering terminal, gate, route, distance and remaining time; byAir Predict, which starts monitoring a flight six hours before departure; and Friends and Family Sharing by invite link, described on the listing as replacing the "landed yet?" text. It's also the app that imports App in the Air history, as above. It runs ad-free, with in-app purchases for anything beyond the free plan. Pricing is unverified. The Play listing shows only "In-app purchases" with no amounts, so this page doesn't print a byAir price.

byAir also publishes a localised site across 20 locales, including a Hindi build with its own FAQ and feature pages (checked 2026-09-09), which matters if your old App in the Air account was set up outside the US.

Flighty

Apple only. Its App Store compatibility block, read 2026-09-09, lists iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, each with an OS floor spelled out; a search of that same capture for the word "Android" returns nothing. It carries an Editors' Choice badge and reads "151K Ratings 4.8" on that page. Its pricing page describes the free version, in its own words, as "unlimited flight tracking, live pilot-grade data, Flighty Passport, access to Flighty Friends," without early alerts or detailed flight history. If you're on an iPhone and want the flight-history feature App in the Air used to give you, Flighty Passport is the direct equivalent.

FlightElite

Its own /compare page describes it as live on iOS with Android currently in private beta, the more conservative of two contradicting lines on its site, and the one we're citing. Checked 2026-09-09. It describes itself as carrying a built-in AI travel assistant alongside live flight updates, plus a delay forecast feature. Pricing, from that same page: "$3.99/month, $29.99/year, or $79.99 for lifetime access."

Where TrackMyWings fits, honestly

TrackMyWings™ is a live flight-tracking platform in development. A private beta shipped on 2026-08-24, Android only, on the Play internal testing track, with a small group of named testers. Public launch has no fixed date; it's gated on trade-mark clearance and on the app being good enough to earn the download. There is no import feature on our planned-at-launch list, so if you need your App in the Air history moved somewhere today, this isn't that answer yet. Flight history and an aviation passport built on top of it are both planned features, described on our own pages in future tense for exactly that reason.

If you're on Android and want something to watch rather than something to install this week, that's the honest version of where we are. If you need a working app today, the three above are the working apps.

How any of these apps sees an aircraft at all

None of these apps makes an aircraft visible on its own. Community ADS-B networks are built from volunteer receivers on rooftops and windowsills, so what any app built on that data can show depends on whether a receiver was in range to hear the aircraft. Near a dense receiver network, that's usually solid. Over open ocean, it thins out toward nothing, because there's nobody out there to put a receiver on a roof. That's a property of the underlying technology, not a performance figure for any specific app, and this page doesn't rank the three above on tracking quality: we haven't measured any of them.

That's also why "which one has better data" is close to an unanswerable question from the outside. None of App in the Air, byAir, Flighty or FlightElite has published a methodology for exactly what its coverage looks like route by route, and we haven't independently measured any of them either. What you can go on is the platform each one runs on, whether it's actually downloadable today, and what it says about itself in its own listing. That's what this page has stuck to.

Questions people ask

Is App in the Air still around? Its store listings return HTTP 404 on both Android and iOS, and its own domain now redirects to an unrelated airline-retail site. Checked 2026-09-09. We don't have a reliable date for when it shut down, because the secondhand accounts disagree.

Can I get my flight history back? byAir's own listing advertises importing history from App in the Air, along with FlightRadar24, Flighty and TripIt. That's the closest thing to an answer, sourced to byAir's own page rather than to us testing it.

What replaced App in the Air? Nothing replaced it directly; it's simply gone. byAir, Flighty and FlightElite are the three working apps that cover overlapping ground, each with a different platform story: byAir on Android and iOS, Flighty on Apple only, FlightElite live on iOS with Android in private beta by its own account.

Does TrackMyWings work today as a replacement? Not yet. It's a private, Android-only beta on the Play internal testing track, with no public download and no fixed launch date.

Which of these should I actually install? On Android, byAir is the option with a shipped, publicly downloadable listing today, and it also offers to import your App in the Air history. On an iPhone, both Flighty and FlightElite are publicly available; FlightElite's own Android build is still in private beta by its own description, so on Android specifically, byAir remains the one with a public listing.

More app comparisons sit in the App Reviews section of the blog, and our live flight tracking page describes what we're building toward.
