Best Flight Tracker Apps for US Domestic Travel

TrackMyWings Team9 min read

The best flight tracker app us domestic travelers actually keep on their phone depends on one thing before any feature list matters: which phone it is. Below are five apps compared on facts each vendor publishes about itself, checked on 2026-09-09 and linked at the end, plus where our own product, TrackMyWings™, fits into the picture. TrackMyWings™ is our own product, and every fact about the other five apps below is checked against the source listed with it, not against a marketing page or a review site.

A quick glance before the detail, all figures USD and checked 2026-09-09:

Flighty

Flighty's App Store page, checked 2026-09-09, covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision. A search of that same capture for the word "Android" returns nothing, so if your domestic trips involve an Android phone, this is not your app, however good the rest of it is.

Flighty's pricing page describes its free version as including "unlimited flight tracking, live pilot-grade data, Flighty Passport, access to Flighty Friends," without early alerts or detailed flight history, per the same page. The US storefront's In-App Purchases block lists Pay-As-You-Go at $4.99, Pro Annual Savings at $59.99, Flexible Monthly at $9.99 and Lifetime at $299.00, each figure priced for the US storefront on 2026-09-09.

Two things worth naming plainly: the App Store page carries an Editors' Choice badge and reads 4.8 from 151K ratings, and its free tier is more generous than most of this category publishes. If you fly on Apple hardware and want the flight on your wrist as well as your phone, Flighty is the app built for exactly that, and a domestic connection through a big hub is precisely the case it is designed around.

Flightradar24

Flightradar24's own FAQ states it plainly: "Track flights on the web or in our iOS and Android mobile apps," so unlike Flighty it runs on both major platforms, plus a browser tab if you would rather not install anything before a trip.

Its free tier, from its own Compare Plans table, carries ads throughout the app and the map, one bookmark, seven days of flight history and no airport flight history, with website sessions timing out after 30 minutes and three sessions of its 3D view. Paid tiers run Silver at $14.99 a year, Gold at $34.99 a year and Business at $499.99 a year, each figure USD, per the same page, with a footnote that sales tax or VAT is added where it applies.

The honest read is that Flightradar24 is built for the person who wants to watch the whole sky, not only their own gate. That is a strength for a domestic connection where you want to see every aircraft on the ramp at a busy hub, and a reason the free tier's ads and timeouts matter less to that reader than they would to someone who only opens the app twice a trip to check one flight number.

FlightAware

FlightAware runs on the web, iOS and Android. Its free "Basic" tier, from its own Compare Subscriptions table, includes five flight tracking alerts, five saved aircraft and three saved airports, with three months of past flight activity, premium map styles and no fleet tracking.

Where FlightAware differs from the other four here is its paid ladder: Premium+ at $44.95 a month, Enterprise at $99.95 a month and Enterprise WX at $149.95 a month. Those are prices built for dispatchers and operators tracking fleets, not a single domestic traveler checking one connection at JFK, and it shows in the feature list too: fleet tracking and tail-number lookups sit behind the paid tiers.

FlightAware's real strength for a domestic trip is depth on the free tier's history window and its aeronautical charts, useful if you care about weather along a route as much as the flight number itself, and its AIRMET and SIGMET data if a storm system is part of your travel-day worry.

byAir

byAir's Google Play listing, checked 2026-09-09, covers Android, iOS, Apple Watch and Wear OS, with phone, watch and tablet form factors. Its own comparison page names a feature it leads with: Friends and Family Sharing by invite link, described on the listing as replacing "landed yet?" texts, which is close to the job a domestic traveler's family actually wants done, and it puts a live tile and a watch-face complication on the lock screen and the wrist rather than only inside the app.

byAir does not publish pricing anywhere we could verify: its Play listing shows only the label "In-app purchases" with no amounts, and its own comparison page names no figures either. That is worth knowing before you install it expecting a clear free-versus-paid line, and it is the one gap in an otherwise detailed public listing.

FlightElite

FlightElite states its own platform position plainly on its own comparison page: iOS is where it ships today, with Android still in a private beta, checked 2026-09-09. That is the same posture TrackMyWings™ is in right now, just with the platforms swapped, and it is worth crediting a competitor for stating that plainly rather than dressing it up.

Its own comparison page gives its price directly: "FlightElite Pro costs $3.99/month, $29.99/year, or $79.99 for lifetime access." That is a straightforward, dated figure from the vendor itself, and a reasonable one to compare against if you land on an iPhone and want a lighter-weight paid option than Flighty's.

How TrackMyWings fits into US domestic travel

TrackMyWings™ is a live flight-tracking platform in development. A private beta shipped on 2026-08-24, Android only, on the Play internal testing track with a small group of named testers. Public launch has no fixed date, and it is gated on trade-mark clearance and on the app being good enough to earn the download, not on a calendar date anyone has set.

That means the honest answer for a domestic trip this week is: not yet. There is no public download and no iOS build. What is planned at launch, written in future tense because none of it has shipped, includes gate and status alerts, a live map, and trip management with a shared family view so the person waiting at the other end of a domestic connection can see the same flight you are watching. The free tier at launch is Free (Limited), with 3 watchlist slots, and paid tiers are decided but not on sale, because there is nothing to sell during a private beta.

We are not asking anyone to rank us against the five apps above. None of them has anything to prove against a product with no public download, and a roundup that pretended otherwise would be inventing a comparison rather than reporting one. What we can say honestly is where the beta sits today and what it is built to do once it is public.

If you fly domestically on carriers like Delta through hubs like JFK, the five apps above are what you can put on your phone today, and any of them will do the job better than a product still in private beta. Our own directory already covers routes well beyond the domestic US map, including pairs like Newark to Santo Domingo, and that breadth is where TrackMyWings™ is headed once the beta becomes a public app rather than a set of screens for named testers.

Questions people ask

Which of these apps works on Android? Flightradar24, FlightAware and byAir all run on Android per their own listings, checked 2026-09-09. Flighty is Apple-only. FlightElite's own comparison page states it is on iOS with Android in private beta.

What is the cheapest paid option here? FlightElite's own comparison page lists $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, the lowest monthly figure among the paid apps checked here. byAir publishes no price at all.

Can I use TrackMyWings for a domestic US trip today? Not yet. The private beta is Android only, runs on a small group of named testers on the Play internal testing track, and public launch has no fixed date.

Do any of these apps show every aircraft in US airspace? This roundup does not rank the five on coverage. Each depends on ADS-B, a signal an aircraft broadcasts that a ground receiver has to be in range to pick up, so what a map shows is bounded by receiver placement rather than a number any of these five vendors publishes.

What does TrackMyWings cost? Nothing is on sale during the private beta. The planned free tier at launch is 3 watchlist slots, and pricing beyond that is decided for launch but not something you can buy today.

Which app has the best free tier for an occasional domestic traveler? Flighty's free tier is the most generous of the five on paper, per its own pricing page: unlimited tracking, Flighty Passport and Flighty Friends, with early alerts and detailed history reserved for paid tiers. That is Apple hardware only. On Android, Flightradar24 and byAir are the two with a working free tier, though Flightradar24's carries ads and a 30-minute site timeout.

Do any of these apps require a paid plan just to see a flight number? No. Every app named here, including FlightAware's Basic tier and byAir's free installation, lets you look up a flight number without paying. What the paid tiers add is history depth, fleet tracking or, for byAir, features not itemized on its public listing.
