A cross platform flight tracker app matters the moment two people in the same group carry different phones: one iPhone, one Android, both waiting on the same flight. We checked six well-known trackers directly against their own store listings, rather than against their marketing pages, on 2026-09-09. Most of the names people ask about do run on both. One does not. One is gone from both stores entirely. And one app's own homepage says something its own store page does not back up.
TrackMyWings™ is our own product. Every competitor fact on this page was checked on 2026-09-09 against the vendor's own store listing, pricing page, or site, each linked in Sources. No social proof and no switcher testimonial: there are no public users yet.
Who runs on both iPhone and Android, per the app stores
| App | iPhone (App Store) | Android (Google Play) | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| byAir | Listed | Listed | 2026-09-09 |
| Flightradar24 | Listed | Listed | 2026-09-09 |
| FlightAware | Listed | Listed | 2026-09-09 |
| Flighty | Listed | Not listed | 2026-09-09 |
| FlightElite | Listed | See the note below | 2026-09-09 |
| App in the Air | 404, not listed | 404, not listed | 2026-09-09 |
Flighty's App Store page reads "Requires iOS 18.0 or later", and lists iPad, Mac, Apple Vision and Apple Watch alongside it. A search for the word "Android" over that whole listing returns nothing. That is not a gap in the listing; it is the product decision the listing states.
byAir, Flightradar24 and FlightAware each keep a live listing on both stores. byAir names Wear OS support, including a watch-face complication and a tile, on its Android side, and Apple Watch support on its iOS side, so it reaches further than a phone-only app on either platform. Flightradar24 and FlightAware both describe themselves, in their own words, as running on the web as well as on both mobile platforms.
The app whose own homepage disagrees with itself
FlightElite is the trap in this list, and it is worth naming precisely rather than glossing over. Its own /compare page, in its own wording, describes the iPhone build as shipped and the Android build as still in private beta. Its homepage meta description, on the same date, reads "Free for iPhone, iPad & Android." The only working store link this research turned up for it points to Apple's storefront; no equivalent for Google's storefront turned up alongside it.
Read plainly: two pages on the same site, on the same day, describe the same product's platform reach differently. That is a fact about the site, not a criticism of the app, and the more conservative of the two statements is the one its own comparison page makes. If you are checking FlightElite from an Android phone, the honest answer today, per its own comparison page, is: not yet, it is still in private beta on that side.
This is also the reason this whole piece opens from store listings and not from marketing pages. A homepage description is copy someone wrote once and may not have updated; a working link to a store listing is either there or it is not, on the date checked.
What each one is actually good at
Flighty carries an "Editors' Choice" badge and a 4.8 rating from 151,000 App Store ratings, on version 4.10.1. Its free tier, by its own pricing page, includes "unlimited flight tracking, live pilot-grade data, Flighty Passport, access to Flighty Friends."
byAir offers Friends and Family Sharing by invite link, described on its listing as removing the "landed yet?" text exchange, and it imports flight history from FlightRadar24, App in the Air, Flighty and TripIt, which none of the other apps here claim to do.
Flightradar24 goes deep for the enthusiast side of tracking: a 3D view and ATC boundary overlays on its paid tiers, plus fleet view and airport or aircraft history.
FlightAware carries aeronautical charts, AIRMETs and SIGMETs, and its historical flight data reaches back 3 to 8 months depending on tier.
FlightElite describes a built-in AI travel assistant with a delay forecast, plus a lock-screen widget and smart notifications, on its own site.
The one that's gone from both stores
App in the Air is worth mentioning because it still comes up in searches, and it is not something you can install today. Its Google Play listing and its App Store page both returned HTTP 404 on 2026-09-09. If it is the app you remember, the five apps with a live listing checked above (see gate change alerts for the kind of feature the category has moved toward since) are the ones worth opening instead.
Reading a store listing instead of a marketing page
The pattern across every app in this piece is the same: the store listing is the one page a vendor cannot quietly leave stale, because a broken or missing listing is a broken or missing product for anyone who tries to install it that day. A homepage, a blog post or a meta description tag can drift out of date without anyone noticing for months. That is the practical reason to check the store before the marketing copy whenever the question is "does this run on my phone", whichever tracker you are comparing.
It also means a check like this one has a shelf life. Store listings change; a private beta moves to a public one; a discontinued app can, in principle, come back. Every date in this piece is 2026-09-09, and a reader checking six months from now should re-open the store link rather than trust the table as permanent.
How TrackMyWings helps
TrackMyWings™ is a live flight tracking platform in development. A private beta shipped on 2026-08-24, Android only, on the Play internal testing track. There is no iOS build today and no iOS distribution path in scope. Public launch has no fixed date, and it is gated on trade-mark clearance and on the app being good enough to earn the download. If a roundup of more flight-tracker options is what you came here for, the best free flight tracker apps piece covers that ground.
Questions people ask
Which flight tracker apps run on both iPhone and Android? byAir, Flightradar24 and FlightAware each hold a current listing on Apple's storefront and on Google Play, per our 2026-09-09 check.
Does Flighty run on Android? No. Its App Store page lists Apple devices only, and a search for "Android" over that listing returns nothing.
Is FlightElite available on Android? Its own comparison page says Android is in private beta, while its homepage meta description says otherwise. No Google Play listing was found in this research, so the more conservative statement is the one to trust today.
Is App in the Air still available? No. Both its Google Play and App Store pages returned HTTP 404 on 2026-09-09.
Does TrackMyWings work on Apple phones? Not today. The current beta is Android only, on the Play internal testing track, and there is no build for Apple's platform yet.
Do any of these support Apple Watch or Wear OS? Flighty lists Apple Watch on its App Store compatibility block. byAir names Wear OS, plus a watch-face complication and a tile, on its Android side, and Apple Watch on its iOS side.
Which of these has the best free tier? That depends what "best" means to you. Flighty's pricing page describes its free version as including unlimited flight tracking and Flighty Passport; FlightAware's free Basic tier caps at 5 flight alerts, 5 saved aircraft and 3 saved airports; Flightradar24's free tier carries ads and a 7-day flight-history window. This piece does not rank the three against each other, because "best" depends on which limit bothers you least.
